The Heidelberg University Hospital is one of the most renowned and largest medical centers in Germany. It has over 10.000 employees from more than 100 countries and is a large provider of in-patient and out-patient care. It is a nationally and internationally well-established hub for innovative research with close ties to local, national and international research partners. The history of the medical faculty at the University of Heidelberg traces back more than 600 years. Heidelberg University Hospital is committed to build on this long tradition and continues to pursue excellence in patient care, research and teaching. The Heidelberg Institute of Global Health (HIGH) was founded in 1962 and is one of the institutes at the Faculty of Medicine at Heidelberg University. In over 60 years of its existence, the institute has contributed to the various paradigm shifts in tropical medicine to public health. It receives public core funding, however over half of the funds are competitively acquired for both research and teaching activities. Through its research and teaching, the institute aims to contribute to improving the health of vulnerable populations worldwide. The Oral Health Section focuses on health economics and improvement science with particular emphasis on identifying and implementing better governance, financial, and healthcare delivery arrangements to optimize people’s oral and general health, both globally and locally.
